What Gift to Give an Employee? By Debbie L Boynton
When you have a client that increases their business with you, or an employee who deserves some extra recognition, a small gift of appreciation will go a long way. The hardest part of gift giving is knowing what to give for each occasion. Gifts can range from a personalized item to a common houseplant. The following is a list of gift ideas to correspond with the recipient's personality or special occasion.
A unique, personalized, or custom-made gift is perfect for a special occasion, reward, or dedicated client. Here are a few suggestions:
Name-engraved stones Glass photo coasters Silver or gold-plated wine stoppers Paperweight with inspirational message. Choose a message the receiver is sure to enjoy, or choose a quotation by a person the receiver admires. Engraved success keys Engraved cigar case Ornamental clock
Office furnishings are a great idea for any office or business environment. In this instance, give the recipient a useful and thoughtful gift, such as:
Picture Frame Pencil holder Photo clip holder Coffee mug Lunch container Desk Lamp Day planner
Accessories are also a great gift idea. Everyone uses accessories to personalize their wardrobe or office space. Some gift ideas are:
Photo wallet in a leather case Compass watch Leather briefcase Locket key chain Engraved money clip For special occasions, such as Christmas, seasonal socks or ties are a possibility
Wine and cigars are very popular gift items, but think about the receiver's personality before giving such a gift. A nonsmoker or nondrinker will not be able to enjoy these gifts and you do not want to offend anyone while trying to show your appreciation for your hard work:
Cigar case Flask, possibly personalized Photo coasters Zippo lighter Cigars Wine glass set A bottle of special wine
Gourmet food is usually a sure crowd pleaser and a perfect gift for an acquaintance. These food can be decoratively wrapped in boxes, jars or baskets:
Cookies Chocolate cherries Hard candies and caramel Brownies Fruit and cheese tray
Plants and flowers are also a good gift when you do not know what the recipient would like to have. You can order custom floral arrangements in advance or pick up an assortment of flowers at a local florist. You can even have them delivered. Here a only a few options available:
Fortune plants, such as bamboo or a money tree plant Bonsai Hydrangea Lilies Daisies Gardenia Orchids Roses, regular or miniature African violets
Before you spend time and money on an employee's gift, remember the occasion, their personality, and how well you know them.
